  • Took the weekend off

Well, it seems I took the weekend off from blogging.  That's okay, right?  I mean, I did blog for six days in a row!  It's been a long, long while since I last did that.

Okay, I need to say it one more time: this city is nuts.  Sure, it only takes me one hand to count how many homeless people I have to step over on my way to work everyday, but I don't remember Boston being like this. There was a guy on the bus the other day who hocked not one but two loogies right there on the bus.  Right next to me in fact.  I might have even caught a bit of splash on my arm....  Then he leaned over and forced out a pretty loud fart.  Luckily, we thought to get up and move right before that.  Nasty, nasty, nasty.

While riding on the bus, I often think about bus courtesy, not surprisingly.  Let's say I'm sitting next to someone on a four-seat bench.  We're left in the middle two seats after the two people on the ends get up to leave.  Is it weird to stay in my seat, or is it weirder to move away so that there's an open seat between us?  These are the kinds of things I think about on the bus.

I usually stay in my seat unless the person is taking up too much space or is freaking me out, which is shockingly enough not that rare an occurrence.  What do you do?

I've never understood people that spit in public. It's such a nasty habit!

If I'm reading your scenario correctly, I would do the opposite.  Anytime free space opens up, I jump on it as a courtesy to both myself and the stranger.  If I wasn't in a position to move over, but the stranger was, I would be a little pissed if they DIDN'T move.  I don't think it's "rude" to move over... you're just letting the guy know "hey, let's keep our personal space personal."
